Any day is fair game for Taco Night in this house. For this reason, I make my homemade taco seasoning in bulk and from scratch at home.
We consume so much of it that I really like to have a healthy taco seasoning option. I know exactly what’s in it, no preservatives!
This combination has become a favorite for not only ground beef tacos, but also for shredded chicken or slow-cooked pulled pork.
For the bulk storage version, it is a 6 times multiplication of the original recipe. This works perfectly in a pint-sized jar. The extra head space gives just the right amount of space to mix everything up. Just add a lid, slap a label on and you are ready for every Taco Night in the near future!
And if you are like me, there is something so oddly satisfying about the layering effect prior to mixing. Reminds me of those sand art projects we did as kids.

How much homemade taco seasoning for 1 pound of ground beef?
2-3 tablespoons of homemade taco seasoning for 1 pound of ground beef is our standard application. More or less, depending on what you like!
I recommend to add the taco seasoning at the end of cooking the ground beef. This way, you can be sure that there are no pink, undercooked areas left. Can’t tell when the seasoning colors the meat!
Standard taco toppings in our house:
- Shredded cheese
- Sour cream
- Shredded lettuce
- Hot sauce (we are a Valentina household)
- Salsa (I can hot salsa every summer with Mrs Wages salsa mix)
- Guacamole
I created a free printable download of this recipe for my birthday this year! I’ll go ahead and leave the link live, so you can grab it, if you want.
